Quality mother of pearl has a beautiful glow that makes you look awesome at any occasion, from casual to elegant. Nacre is the smooth shiny iridescent substance forming the inner layer of the shell of some molluscs, esp. oysters and abalones and is used in ornament. Pacific Pearl shell, or Mother-of-pearl, is a true treasure of the deep and it is absolutely amazing when polished and carved. It has layers of gold or black with silver pearl / white, which seem to move and rotate around as the sculptures are activated. Pearl is almost as hard as jade so it is a wonderful long lasting material intricate carvings. Given the wide range of colors and level of education in the shell, it is impossible for two pieces will ever be the same. The sculptures often look completely different on each side. The colors are therefore only indicative and may vary considerably between sculptures. Please note that due to the relatively thin nature of peFarl shell in general and black pearl shell, in particular, the larger sculptures can be very flat on the back. SPECIAL NOTE: Due to an extreme shortage of gold lipped pearl shell around the world, many designs are now in very limited supply.
